Behind the Builds: Lae’zel Edition

Behind the Builds: Lae’zel Edition

Welcome to Behind the Builds, the part of the blog where we show off what’s brewing in the print room—and all the gremlins that try to get in the way.

First up: Lae’zel, queen of sass, swing, and Githyanki rage.

We’re big fans of Baldur’s Gate 3 in this house (especially the ones who walk on four legs and knock over support materials). So it only made sense to bring one of the most iconic characters to life as a custom-painted model—and oh boy, did she come with challenges.

Phase 1: The Print Begins (Freya’s Inspection Commences)

It always starts with a perfectly sliced file, leveled bed, and hopes high. We kicked things off printing Lae’zel in sections—because detail matters, and also because we’ve learned the hard way that full-body resin prints + surprise dog hair = tragic. Thanks to Bulkamancer Sculpts for the epic and beautifully modeled file - find them on cults3d.com or Patreon!

Freya, in all her potato glory, took the opportunity to do her patented “mid-print quality check,” which mostly involves getting dangerously close to the build plate like she’s trying to intimidate the machine into doing better.

Sif was nervously pacing. Hela was stealing socks. Juno blinked slowly. All was as it should be.

Phase 2: Cleaning, Curing, and Cursing

Once the pieces were printed, it was time to cure them like ancient relics. (If ancient relics came out of resin goo and needed their tiny swords de-supported without snapping in half.)

Somewhere during this stage, a small piece broke—probably because Lae’zel sensed weakness in our technique—and we may or may not have declared her “a tyrant and a menace” before calmly reprinting the arm like professionals.

Phase 3: Paint and Personality

This is where the real magic happens. We spend hours hand-painting each detail, from her fierce expression to the metallic trim of her armor. Lae’zel doesn’t exactly strike us as the “pastel” type, so we leaned hard into bold tones, dark shadows, and a bit of bloodlust in the eyes.

There was a moment where we painted a highlight on her cheek that looked a little too "Instagram contour," but after some adjustments, she was back to looking like she’d cleave a Mind Flayer in two before breakfast.

Final Result: Ready for the Battlefield

She’s nearly complete now—battle-worn, brilliantly painted, and full of righteous rage. We’ll post final photos soon (and yes, she will be available for custom orders if you want your own mini warrior who might critique your every decision).

This build was a blast—and yes, we are SO ready to make more of the character faves from the game.

Got a favorite character you’d love to see next? Message us! We thrive on chaos and inspiration in equal measure.

Until then, remember: respect your familiars, keep your print beds clean, and never underestimate a woman with a sword and 400 years of trauma.
